Oban Camping and Caravan club Site: Review

Oban CCC site
Oban CCC site

Oban CCC site is about 13 miles north of the town of Oban at Barcaldine over the Connel Bridge. It is set in a walled garden and is therefore very sheltered. The benefit of being sheltered by the high walls is that it feels warm. The disadvantage is the greater number of midges that gather. They don’t like the wind any more than we do.

Facilities are excellent as you would expect from a club site and we found the wardens to be friendly and relaxed. Right beside the site is a forested area with marked walks and mountain bike tracks. Nearby there are beaches and a sealife centre.

We felt very comfortable here and we enjoyed the friendly buzz of activity as everyone settled down for evening BBQs. The walls give a real sense of community, especially as it’s a relatively small site.

Only one major irritation – the water pressure at the motorhome service point is incredibly low, so prepare to stand there for a long time. We opted to fill up making several trips with a watering can, the night before we left, as the morning queue for the service point was so depressingly slow.

We give this site 8/10
