Villeveque sur Loir

September 28, 2015March 24, 2016 - Margaret Leave a comment

Now just in case you are the kind of person that feels the need to correct other people’s spelling – this is the Loir river not the Loire. There are two, quite close to one another, in fact separated only by a vowel. We spent the night on a free Aire de Camping Car inRead more

Broglie Aire de Camping Car

September 26, 2015March 24, 2016 - Margaret Leave a comment

We love the way that France provides places for motorhomes to stay overnight and fill up with water, dump waste and empty the chemical loo. These Aires are often free or cost a very small amount. 100 litres of water usually costs around €2 and you get a peaceful safe spot to sleep. The payRead more

Financial Stuff

If you’re paying attention you might have noticed that I’m sometimes mentioning the price of things as I go along. It’s true that I’m from Yorkshire where we rival the Scots with our reputation for being careful with money but that’s not my main purpose. We’re attempting something we’ve never done before, which isRead more

Neufchatel en Bray

September 26, 2015March 24, 2016 - Margaret 5 Comments

This was our home for three nights after the long slow drive from Scotland. The first task was to take Poppy to see the vet. She needed special worming pills to prevent her being infected by nasty French and Spanish lung and heartworms. In the UK the only preventative treatment is a liquid put onRead more

From there to here

September 23, 2015March 24, 2016 - Margaret 2 Comments

Our last stop in the UK was in Canterbury. Motorhomes can stay overnight in the Park and Ride for £3 and this includes unlimited bus rides around the city for up to six passengers. An incredible deal don’t you think? The only problem was that the rain was torrential that day and even the dogs wereRead more

September 20th: Lyndon Top by Rutland Water

September 22, 2015March 24, 2016 - Margaret Leave a comment

We left Chorley and drove to Rutland Water to spend the night at Lyndon Top. This is a massive, simple site with views over the water. No electricity, just water and CDP. It costs £7 a night and it’s well worth it. We’ll be back with the Funster Ladies’ Meet next April. Can’t wait girls.

Lesson Number One: Never leave the motorhome unlocked when you’re not inside it

To be fair the insurers give you dire warnings about this but they’re more concerned about someone driving off with your pride and joy. We knew we were safe at the back of the Shaw Hill Hotel and Country Club where we’d been celebrating Matthew and Diane’s wedding. What we didn’t know was that theRead more

September 19th: Leaving Home

September 22, 2015March 24, 2016 - Margaret 2 Comments

… and they’re off. 8.40 a.m. we roll off the drive with the house left neat and tidy for our return who knows when? The sun is shining and we’re on our way to Chorley in Lancashire to Matthew and Diane’s wedding. We can’t think of a better way to start our adventure than withRead more

The Final Countdown

September 18, 2015March 24, 2016 - Margaret Leave a comment

This is like a military operation. Lists and more lists, ticked off boxes, Evernotes, piles of stuff and much discussion about what should go and what should stay but we’re nearly there. Holly’s cupboards are full, her fridge is cold, bikes on the back and diesel and gas full up. A health check at theRead more
